THE WOMAN BEHIND SWADESHI

Meet Jyotsna.

A hobby that grew into a store. A love of plants that reaches beyond it.

I’m Jyotsna Matharu, founder of Swadeshi Store in Baner, Pune. My family’s support has helped turn a lifelong love of plants into this store.

I design and assemble the miniature gardens myself, and work with small potters, suppliers and artisans from across India.

Supporting small makers and bringing greenery into people’s homes matter more to me than profit. I also offer garden work without charge to Pune’s gurdwaras and churches, as seva — selfless service.

“My childhood dream has taken shape.”

Make a garden.
Share the experience.

Jyotsna runs garden creation and terrarium workshops for children, adults and senior citizens. Painting pots, choosing plants and arranging a garden become a chance to learn together.

For World Environment Day, she conducted a gardening workshop for employees at Barclays’ Kharadi office. She has also held plant and bonsai exhibitions.
